As the long Labor Day weekend approaches, we've got a fantastic idea that will help you beat the heat, have a blast, and nurture your family's spiritual bond all in one – it's a Lake Day at the beautiful McDowell Dam in Bismarck ND!
What to Bring: Before you head out for your exciting day by the water, make sure to pack these essentials:
🏊♂️ Swimwear and Sunscreen
🏖️ Water Gear: Bring along towels, chairs, and a umbrella for a relaxing and shaded spot.
🧺 Picnic Supplies: Pack a picnic basket with your favorite snacks, sandwiches, fruits, and refreshing drinks, as well as a blanket
🌊 Water Fun Essentials: If you plan to enjoy the water, remember to bring lifejackets for the little ones. Also, pack any water toys, floaties, or inflatable kayaks you'd like to use.
🪁Kite: For a fun, little family bonding activity! You can get them from Target.
Your Sample Itinerary 🌊🌼
10:00 AM - Arrive and Set Up 🏖️ Find the perfect spot on the sandy sand. 🧺 Set up your picnic area with your family's favorite snacks.
10:30 AM - Beach Fun and Splash 🏊♂️ Let the kids dive into the water for a refreshing swim.
11:30 AM - Playground Time 🤸♂️ Let the kids run wild at the playground 🧗♀️
12:00 pM - Fly Your Kite 🪁 Find an area of open grass, away from many trees (there is lots of room between the shelters) and take a whirl at learning how to fly it with your kids.
12:30 PM - Picnic 🥪 Begin by reading a verse from the Bible that talks about soaring, such as Isaiah 40:31 – "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles." Discuss the verse's meaning and what it means to "soar on wings like eagles." Then share moments when you felt encouraged or uplifted, much like the feeling of watching your kite soar against the sky. Finally, gather around for a delicious picnic lunch filled with laughter and conversation. 🍉 Savor the flavors of your favorite fruits and snacks.
1:30 PM - Water Adventures Round Two🚣♂️Now is a perfect time to rent paddle boards or kayaks.
3:30 PM - Wind Down and Departure 🌅 Pack up your belongings and depart, carrying with you memories of a day well spent.
We encourage you to unplug, be present, and let the tranquility of the environment guide your moments of reflection. This is the perfect moment to connect with your kids in the outdoors, and it would be fun for all ages and ability levels!
